[Perspectives] Joseph Lubega, Director of Global HOPE—building paediatric cancer care in sub-Saharan Africa

While at medical school in Kampala, Uganda, Joseph Lubega met a cheerful 8-year-old girl with cancer. In the 2 weeks that it took to get her diagnosis, the disease had spread and she was paralysed and in pain. Moved by her plight, he helped to raise money to put towards her treatment, but when he gave the money to her mother she was most grateful because it meant she could buy food for her daughter.
