On May 22, 2023, Ireland introduced legislation mandating the labelling of alcohol products. The labels will stipulate the calorie content and number of grams of alcohol contained within the product and warn consumers of the dangers of drinking alcohol while pregnant. They will also highlight the heightened risk of several types of cancer, as well as the association between liver disease and alcohol consumption. In remarks to the media, Ireland’s Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, stated that “This law is designed to give all of us as consumers a better understanding of the alcohol content and health risks associated with consuming alcohol.”
