Cancer chemotherapy is often too expensive for an individual patient to bear, considering the frequency of administration usually required. However, health institutions observe cancer drug wastage as a worldwide problem contributing to exorbitant health-care costs. According to Sandeep Nayak, Founder and Chief Surgical Oncologist at MACS Clinic, Bengaluru, India, many cancer drugs in single-use vials hold too much medication for most patients. For drugs whose dosage is based on a patient’s weight or body size, unused leftovers must be discarded.
