[News] Nigerian competition watchdog fines British American Tobacco

On Dec 27, 2023, Nigeria’s national regulatory authority announced that it had imposed a fine of US $110 million on British American Tobacco (BAT). The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), which is mandated to promote fair business practices and safeguard the interests of consumers, issued a statement explaining that the fine was in response to a range of infringements of Nigerian law by BAT. The alleged infringements included violations of public health control regulations.
