On April 30, 2024, during his first visit to Chile, Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA; Vienna, Austria) and Chile’s Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren (Santiago, Chile) signed a memorandum of understanding as part of IAEA’s Nuclear Technology for Controlling Plastic Pollution (NUTEC) Plastics initiative to combat microplastic pollution in Antarctica. Grossi also met Chile’s Minister of Health Ximena Aguilera Sanhueza (Santiago, Chile) to discuss broadening cancer care in Chile via training and nuclear medicine under IAEA’s Rays of Hope initiative.
