As Lord Ara Darzi undertakes his independent review of the UK National Health Service (NHS), cancer must be firmly embedded at the top of his agenda. The future cancer inquiry, conducted by the Health and Social Care Select Committee at Westminster (London, UK), did not have time to produce its final report before the prorogation of parliament on May 25, 2024, for the UK’s general election on July 4, 2024. However, the Committee drafted a detailed letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care at the time, Victoria Atkins, that sets out some of its interim findings.
