KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The study aimed to conduct bibliometric analysis on breast cancer immunotherapy, assessing research status, trends, and hotspots in topics.
  • The analysis revealed that the Global expansion of breast cancer immunotherapy research underscores its vital clinical value amid rising incidence.

Immunotherapy has emerged as a significant advancement in modern oncology, offering new hope in the fight against breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer-related mortality in women worldwide.

Fanli Qu and the team aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis on breast cancer immunotherapy, offering an extensive review of current research status and identifying research topic trends and hotspots.

Data from the Web of Science Core Collection were used for a bibliometric analysis spanning 2013 to 2022 on breast cancer immunotherapy. Through co-occurrence analysis with VOSviewer, researchers evaluated current status and hotspots.

Evolution and bursts in the knowledge base were assessed using CiteSpace for co-citation analysis. Thematic evolution, identifying keyword trends, was conducted with the bibliometrix package. The study also explored the attribution and collaboration of countries/regions, institutions, and authors. In total, 7,975 publications were included in the analysis.

In the co-occurrence analysis of keywords, they identified 6 major clusters which were tumor microenvironment, prognosis biomarkers, immune checkpoints, novel drug delivery methods, immune cells, and therapeutic approaches. The top 3 most frequently mentioned keywords were tumor microenvironment, triple-negative breast cancer, and programmed cell death ligand 1.

The most productive country, institution, and author were the United States (with 2,926 publications), the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (with 219 publications), and Sherene Loi (with 28 publications), respectively. Studies on immunotherapy for breast cancer have experienced rapid global growth.

The field of breast cancer immunotherapy has garnered growing interest from diverse countries and institutions. Given the escalating incidence of breast cancer, immunotherapy emerges as a research domain with substantial clinical significance and potential.
