Cases of skin cancer in the UK are at a record high, according to a Cancer Research UK (London, UK) report published on July 7, 2023. Approximately 17 500 people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year, and this number is expected to increase by 50% over the next 20 years. The rise is sharper among people older than 55 years of age, which some speculate is linked to the boom in cheap travel to hot weather destinations in the 1960s and 1970s, when people were less aware of the risks of sun exposure.
