[Comment] Towards world-class radiotherapy in the UK: time for transformation

Radiotherapy is needed by half of all patients with cancer. The Lancet Oncology Commission1 on expanding global access to radiotherapy in 2015 reported that, with relatively modest investment, radiotherapy could treat large numbers of patients with cancer and save lives. International efforts are underway to ensure equal access to radiotherapy through effective implementation of national cancer control plans (NCCPs) with adequate, sustainable financing mechanisms and strong political commitment.
