New research published in JAMA Oncology shows that an estimated 1 in 9 cancer diagnoses were missed in the USA during the first part of the COVID-19 pandemic (March–December, 2020), translating to 134 395 undiagnosed cancers during that time . The authors, led by Todd Burus (Markey Cancer Center, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA), calculated the missing diagnoses by comparing cancer diagnoses in the first 10 months of the COVID-19 pandemic with pre-pandemic trends from January, 2018, to February, 2020.
