The Nigerian government has officially declared cancer a notifiable disease, a landmark development that requires all public and private health-care providers across the country to report all cases of cancer to the centralised registry. This initiative, explains Tunji Alausa (State Minister for Health and Social Welfare of Nigeria), aims to establish a comprehensive database to accurately reflect the burden of cancer in Nigeria. Alausa emphasised that this data-driven approach is essential for formulating evidence-based policies, efficiently allocating resources, and monitoring the effectiveness of interventions over time.
