Ajay Aggarwal and colleagues highlight concerns regarding the challenges faced by National Health Service (NHS) cancer services and systems, and propose ten pressure points that a UK cancer control plan needs to address as a matter of urgency.1 We welcome their perspectives, setting new technologies only within the context of more conventional solutions needed to remedy large systemic pressures on cancer services. We would add another—availability of reserved critical care beds for elective oncological surgery.
