[Comment] The Radiation Planning Assistant: addressing the global gap in radiotherapy services

Radiotherapy is a crucial part of comprehensive cancer care; investment in radiotherapy has been shown to save lives, help give patients dignity towards the ends of their lives, and bring positive economic benefits. The Lancet Oncology Commissions have noted these benefits while highlighting that most of the world’s population has extremely limited access to radiotherapy.1,2 One particular challenge in enabling equitable access is staffing; safe and effective radiotherapy requires a multidisciplinary team of highly trained medical professionals that includes oncologists and medical physicists.
